The finger wave was a popular hairstyle of the 1920s & 30s, during which began to emerge in the 1920s when women's fashion began to transgress into major political statement that pioneered the now famous style of androgyny. This was popularised and coined as the rebellious flapper style.

Women would bandage their breasts close to their chests and cut away with long hair in favour of short bobs. However, the look began to evolve and took on a more feminine sheik.
